M/T Kongsgaard, Gowart Olsen, Stavanger, vart torpedert av den tyske ubåten U 502, 21. februar 1942, kl. 09.12, på veg frå Curaçao lasta med 15 600 tonn lett råolje. Tankers were the primary targets for German submarines in the Caribbean. The MT Kongsgaard, owned by Gowart Olsen, Stavanger, was torpedoed by the German submarine U 502, on 21 February, 1942, at 09.12, on her way from Curaçao loaded with 15 600 tonnes of light crude oil. Seven men survived, 37 lost their lives, among them Petter Eltvik. (The picture does not show Kongsgaard).

Memorial stone at Leikanger church in Selje

On the churchyard of Leikanger church in Selje there is a memorial stone to commemorate those who had perished at sea and those who had been killed in the Second World War. The stone was first erected in memory of those who were lost at sea, but later on it was also used to commemorate those who had been killed during the war years 1940-1945.
