The menhir from Nordhuglo has a runic inscription from the time of the migration, probably some time before the year 500 AD. The inscription on it, in the original Nordic language reads: “ek gudija ungandiR”. Rune experts have interpreted it to mean: “I the god (priest, or master of ceremonies) who cannot be affected by curses”. The top of the stone has been cut off, so the inscription has originally been longer. Up to 1905 the stone lay in a jetty at Huglavika, and nobody knows any longer where it originally stood. It is now in Bergen Historical Museum.
