Just above the ferry quay, above Valestrand centre, a youth centre in classical style stands tall. Johan Lindstrøm is the architect for this building, classical in more than one sense. The house belongs in the great “Norwegianness” tradition from the beginning of the 1900s; a building, typical of its period with awakening cultural independence in the rural communities. At the same time this is a fine example of the use of classical architectural design to give the house the right status and symbolic value. The Youth house at Valestrand was built in the 1920s, one of the many bastions of Norwegianness in the rural communities.
